A pumpboat loaded with endangered shells was intercepted by the Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force in Maya, Daanbantayan town at 11:30 p.m., Sunday.
The shells locally known as budyong, were being delivered by nine crew members from the vessel to a waiting truck also loaded with shells at the dock.
Provincial Information Officer Ethel Natera said the shells came from Masbate. The shells and the truck are in the custody of the Daanbantayan police.
Loy Madrigal, Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force chief, said an inventory of the seized shells will be done today.
He said the pumpboat operator also operated another vessel previously apprehended by the Task Force for carrying dynamites.
The vessel’s crew members and the truck driver are detained at the Daanbantayan police precinct. The operation is a joint venture of the province and the Bantay Dagat of Daanbantayan and San Remigio towns.
