Warriors, Trojans lose opening matches

CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors and the Toledo City Trojans had a rough start in the Open Conference of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Third Conference last Wednesday, Oct. 6.

Both Lapu-Lapu City and Toledo City lost their two matches that day against teams from the northern division.

Lapu-Lapu City lost to the Pasig City King Pirates in game one, 5-16, and to the Laguna City Heroes, 6.5-14.5, in the second game.

The Naki Warriors finished the blitz round, 1-6, versus the King Pirates and capped off the rapid round with 4-10, beating.

In their match against Laguna, they lost both the blitz and rapid rounds. Laguna won the blitz round,4.5-2.5, and scored 10-4 in the rapid round.

Meanwhile, Toledo City suffered the same fate after losing both the blitz and rapid rounds to the Caloocan Loadmanna Knights and to the Isabela Knight Raiders.

Caloocan City won the blitz round versus Toledo City, 5.5-1.5, and 9-5 in the rapid round.

Isabela beat Toledo City, 4.5-2.5, in the blitz round and 8-6 in the rapid round.

Lapu-Lapu City plunged to the bottom of the ‘open conference’ standings with a 0-2 (win-loss) record and 11.5 accumulated points.

Toledo City is at eighth place with a 0-2 mark and 16 points in hand.

Guest team SinQGApore and the Philippine Paralympic Chess Team are currently sharing the lead with 2-0 cards.

The Singaporean squad leads the southern division with higher total points of 31.5, against the Paralympic team’s 26.5 total.

On the other hand, Caloocan City, Laguna, San Juan, Pasig, Manila, and Isabela also have 2-0 (win-loss) records and ranked first to fifth in the northern division standings according to their total accumulated points.   /rcg
