CEBU CITY, Philippines—After losing their respective matches, Cebu’s bets, the Toledo City Trojans and the Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors, eye victories in Saturday’s (October 9, 2021) continuation of the ‘open conference’ of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Third Conference.
Both the Trojans and the Naki Warriors lost their two scheduled matches on Wednesday, putting them at the lower part of the southern division standings.
Both teams are winless with 0-2 (win-loss) slates.
This means that winning their matches on Saturday will be very crucial to keep their respective campaigns alive.
Toledo City will go up against the northern division’s No. 6 team, the Manila Indios (2-0), in the first match, while they face the No. 5 Pasig City King Pirates (2-0) in their second game.
Lapu-Lapu City will try to stage an upset versus San Juan Predators (2-0), the No. 3 squad in the northern division. Their second game is against the tournament’s newest addition, the Pampanga Checkers (1-1), currently ranked No. 10 in the northern division’s standings.
The Trojans will be headed by its playing team owner Jeah Jean Gacang along with International Master (IM) Rico Mascariñas, National Master (NM) Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Rommel Ganzon, Richard Natividad, Jinky Catulay, Glicerio Pardillo Jr., Ronald Ganzon, Christopher Tabulado, Redentor Nailon, and Bonn Rainauld Tibod.
The Naki Warriors will be manned by Women’s International Master (WIM) Bernadette Galas, International Arbiter (IA), Lincoln Yap, Edsel Montoya, Elwin Retanal, Michael Joseph Pagaran, Bryle Arellano, Allan Pason, Anthony Makinano, and Aldwin Daculan.
