THE Cebu Archdiocese has a new media liaison officer who will assume his post on the first week of September.
Msgr. Joseph Tan, who is wrapping up his social communications studies in Rome, was designated by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma as the local church’s spokesman in place of Msgr. Achilles Dakay, who served in the position for over 20 years.
“I will be home first week of September,” Tan told Cebu Daily News.
“Maybe we can have an informal get-together so we can plan together a pastoral ministry service for all media workers.”
Aside from Tan, Palma appointed new heads for various archdiocesan commissions.
Specific period
Palma said the changes are meant “to give others a chance” to serve.
“Even officials of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) serve for a specific period only. The CBCP president serves for two years. The head of the commissions serve for six years. After that, whether you are performing good or bad, you have to be changed,” said Palma, a former CBCP president.
Starting last year, the archbishop reshuffled diocesan priests in Cebu, a process which continues in stages.
Churches with a large number of parishioners were given a “team ministry” composed of three priests with one acting as a team moderator instead of a single parish priest.
Msgr. Agustin Ancajas was designated the new chairman of the Commission on Social Communications. He replaced Msgr. Trinidad Silva who is now the team moderator of St. Joseph Parish in Tabunok, Talisay City.

Fr. Brian Brigoli now heads the Commisison on Cultural Heritage of the Church while Msgr. Vicente Rey Penagunda was assigned to lead two commissions: Formation and Extraordinary Phenomena.
The following are charimen of archdiocesan commissions: Fr. Glenn Guanzon (Worship), Fr. Euselito Tulipas (Mission), Fr. Kit Sestoso (Youth), Fr. Jonald Concha (Ongoing Formation of Priests), and Fr.
