With songs, chants and streamers, Mandaue City residents yesterday culminated the celebration of the city’s 45th Charter Day by brandishing this year’s theme and brand name “#iamMandaue!”
City officials, employees and residents gathered at the Mandaue City Sports Complex for the celebration which kicked off with a Mass at the National Shrine of St. Joseph.
It was followed by a parade with floats and a drum and bugle corps led by Mayor Jonas Cortes from the City Hall grounds through S. Cabahug and Plaridel Streets ending at the sports complex.
Employees and and Mandaue City Science High School students danced as the Charter Day theme song “#iamMandaue, mapasigarbuhong dakbayan” blared at the complex.
The slogan is part of a campaign to stir pride of identity among residents.
It is also part of a Performance Governance System (PGS) whose main objective “ is to is to make a well crafted strategy in our government,” Cortes said.
The mayor’s executive secretary, Jamaal James Calipayan led the crowd in yelling the answer to the queston: “Who are we?”
The phrase “I am Mandaue” gives people a sense of ownership in the process “nga ako Mandauehanon ug aduna’y role sa Dakbayan (that I am a Mandauehanon and I have a role in shaping the city), said the mayor.
Cortes told the crowd the vision of Mandaue city is to be a “primary source of high-quality manufactured products by 2020” in the region.
