MANILA, Philippines–Riding high after pushing Croatia to its limit, Gilas Pilipinas showed great resolve anew before falling to powerhouse Greece, 70-82, in Group B of the 2014 Fiba World Cup early Monday morning (Philippine time) in Seville, Spain.
Naturalized center Andray Blatche played through a right knee injury and still came away with 21 points and 14 rebounds in a losing cause for the Philippines, which gave Croatia a scare in a 78-81 loss in overtime on Saturday.
The Nationals face another formidable squad in Argentina late Monday. June Mar Fajardo added 10 points for Gilas.
