Three traders shot dead

A 59-year-old vegetable trader was shot dead by a pillion-riding assailant Wednesday evening in barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

Victim Isidro Abella, is reportedly a former village chief of a barangay in Sibonga town but was already living in Canduman.

PO1 Tirso Plania said Abella just came from the market where he supplied vegetables and passed by a store near his house to pay his debt.

While he was about 20 meters from the gate, two men onboard a motorcycle arrived and the pillion rider shot him in the head.

Police found two shells and two slugs of a .45 cal. bullet at the crime scene.

Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) Homicide Section chief Insp. Zenaido Sanchez said they have yet to identify the assailants and they are looking into the angle that the attack was because of a family conflict.

Sanchez also said the family of the victim is hesitant to answer questions and give information.
Police are checking the footage of the CCTV camera installed in the barangay hall which is near the victim’s house to help them identify the killers.

Meanwhile, an unidentified man shot dead two traders during the market day of barangay Nug-as in Alcoy town Wednesday morning.

The gunman first shot Deones Alloza, 32, who was just loading a box of beans into a delivery truck.

Alloza was hit in the left side of his head and fell to the ground.

This caused panic and people scampered away from the crime scene while the gunman casually walked away.

About 30 meters from where Alloza was shot, the gunman also attacked one Romulo Atienza without provocation.

Atienza, 52, was a resident of barangay Quiot in Cebu City and sells carpets.

The two victims were brought to a nearby health center but were pronounced dead on arrival.

SP01 Gilfredo Carungay, assistant investigator of Alcoy Police Station, admitted that they are having a hard time identifying the gunman as witnesses in the area are not cooperative.
