LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines- The Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) has urged Oponganons to take steps to prevent any second disasters from happening after typhoon Odette.
Nagiel Bañacia, head of the city’s DRRMO, urged the public to have their electrical wire connections checked by a certified master electrician, before requesting for reconnection of electricity.
This is especially important since some areas in Lapu-Lapu City have already restored their power supply.
Bañacia said that by doing this, fire incidents can be prevented.
Aside from this, households whose power supply has not yet been restored should also be mindful while using candles and lamps during the evening.
“Sa way kuryente, magbantay ta sa atong kandila, atong kerosene lamp, atong bantayan ang secondary disaster nga mao ang sunog,” Bañacia said.
He added that firemen might also encounter delays in responding to fire alarms since there are still fallen trees and posts, and debris in the streets.
Aside from this, the city is also experiencing difficulties in the supply of water.
Bañacia also advised the public to boil their water supply, especially if it came from deep wells or hand water pumps.
He said that this is to avoid water-borne diseases caused by contaminated water.
“Nahitabo na sa ubang lugar karon. Sa ubang mga probinsya, so kinahanglan nga pabukalan ang tanang tubig,” he added.
He also urged the public to help in cleaning their surroundings so that they can rise again from the disaster. /rcg
