CEBU CITY, Philippines —The Cebu City Health Department (CHD) is concerned of the possible rise of diarrhea cases here.
Doctor Jeffrey Ibones said that they still do not have the actual data of cases in the barangays and sitios, but reports have already reached them of recorded cases.
The recent recorded cases of diarrhea were in the Operation Second Chance with at least eleven children in conflict with the law (CICLs) developing stomach illnesses.
“Pero nakarecover na to sila. Mao na nagsige tag monitor run,” said Ibones.
The CHD is having difficulties gathering the necessary data because the communication line between the CHD and the barangay health centers was affected by Typhoon Odette.
Ibones said this is a reason why all health centers are allocated chlorine powders for distribution to residents.
Residents can ask for a packet of the 70 percent chlorine granules in the barangay health centers.
A teaspoon of powder must be diluted with one liter of water to form a solution. This will last for a week and then must be discarded after.
A teaspoon of solution can be used for 20 liters of water and must be mixed well until dissolved. The water can now be potable.
Ibones urged the residents to report cases of stomachaches, abdominal pain, and diarrhea to health centers.
CHD is also deploying inspection teams to test water sources in tbe barangays.
Meanwhile, CHD also fears the rise of dengue cases.
This is why misting is now being conducted in certain sitions to avoid the spread of the dengue virus through carrier mosquitos.
Ibones urged the public to clear their surroundings of stagnant water and garbage as well.
They should also be vigilant of mosquitoes at night.
