A security guard was fatally shot by one of two armed robbers in barangay Bulacao, Talisay City yesterday afternoon.
Ramil Bono, 44, who hails from Bohol and has been working for 12 years as a security guard of the Avon shop succumbed to gunshot wounds in the head and stomach after he tried to resist the robbers who entered the shop, pretending to be customers.
SPO1 Mikie Espina of the Talisay City Police Office said the guard asked one of the robbers to leave his helmet and jacket at the courtesy booth, but he instead went out.
When the man returned, he rushed to the guard and shocked him with a stun gun.
The security guard however tried to fight it out with what he thought was a lone robber, but the man’s cohort who saw the struggle rushed into the shop and shot the victim.
The shop has a closed-circuit television camera but the lens was not focused on the area where the scuffle happened.
Without taking anything, the assailants fled in their getaway.
Talisay City Mayor Johnny delos Reyes who viewed the surveillance camera footage directed the police to exert all efforts to capture the assailants.
Gerson Lopena, nephew of the store owner, said the shop had many customers when the robbers struck. He said the presence of many people was the reason why the assailants were not able to go directly to the cash counter.
Shop clerks said they rushed out of the store and sought help from traffic aides who claim they did not notice the commotion.
Supt. Carmelo Dayon, the city’s chief of police, said they could not have been local boys because they did not cover their faces.
He said he received information last week that a robbery group was about to hit the city.
