Mandaue mulls creation of Anti-illegal fishing task force

The City Council of Mandaue is deliberating an ordinance that would create an Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force or Bantay Dagat.

The proposed ordinance, prepared by councilor Jimmy Lumapas, chairman of the committee on environment would empower the task force to enforce the penal provisions of the Local Fishery Code of Mandaue City.

The task force shall be composed of 16 members who are currently fishermen as required and registered of the Local Fishery Code.

Their names shall be submitted to the Mandaue City Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (MCFARMC) to the Human Resource and Management Office (HRMO) for their appointment subject to the existing rules and guidelines.

Members of the Task Force shall receive a monthly honorarium of P1,500. They render 8 hours daily sea operations and shall have a rotational shift of three times in a 6-day week.
