Luzon and the Visayas should brace for heavy rains this weekend as a tropical storm is expected to make landfall in Isabela or Cagayan province in Luzon tomorrow night, the weather bureau warned.
Tropical storm Luis quickly intensified after entering the country yesterday morning.
This enhanced the southwest monsoon and brought continued heavy rains over the Visayas and Mindanao, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Last night, Pagasa raised public storm signal No. 1 over Catanduanes.
“It is moving in the direction of northern Luzon. So we are warning our people in northern Luzon to be alert because they will be affected by Luis,” said the weather official.
The affected provinces in the area are Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur, he said.
The Pagasa official said heavy rains are expected in southern Luzon and Visayas starting Saturday morning.
By Monday morning, the entire northern and central Luzon will experience heavy rains.
The storm may even intensify into a typhoon as it nears land.
