CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City Councilor Philip Zafra, the chairperson for peace and order, is urging the public not to conduct send-offs to Bar examinees this weekend.
Zafra said that even though this is the first time the city will host the Bar exams, it is public knowledge that Bar examinations are generally public affairs.
He said that there is a tradition among family and friends to send off the Bar candidates and they even surround the sites as a form of support for the examinees.
However, because of the ongoing pandemic and the number of COVID-19 cases still rising, the city government has not allowed such activities to occur during the Bar exams.
“Wala gyod na nato giallow although mao gyod nay naandan, but lahi man karong panahon. There are a lot of ways nga makapakita sila sa ilang support in other ways,” said Zafra.
There are three universities hosting the Bar exams, including the University of San Carlos, University of San Jose-Recoletos, and University of Cebu-Banilad Campus.
The bar exams will be conducted on February 4 and 6, 2022.
Zafra said the security for the Bar exams are already set in place with the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) ensuring the safety of the universities.
Road closures are expected at Pelaez and Junquera Streets, near USC, while the area outside UC-Banilad is a no-blowing zone for vehicles in order to avoid distracting the examinees.
Zafra appeals to the public to cooperate during this historic event.
He urged the families and friends to avoid gathering when sending off the examinees, and he also appeal to motorists to avoid blowing their horns in the vicinity of the host universities.
