CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City will start vaccinating minors aged 5 to 11 years old a little later than the rest of Central Visayas.

Vaccination for this age group here will be on Wednesday, February 16, 2022.

This as Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama wants vaccination to be smooth and comfortable for children at this tender age.

Rama, who has a 2-year-old son, is particular with the ambiance and environment of the site where children will be vaccinated.

“The site should not create uneasiness for the children. It should not spawn the contamination of another kind of sickness. That is a very sensitive matter. Those are important matters for us parents,” he said.

With this, he has instructed the Cebu City Health Department (CHD) and Vaccination Operations Center (VOC) to ensure the sites are prepared for implementation on Wednesday, February 16.

“There is no need to hurry. Mangita gyod tag paagi nga malingaw. Unsaon man na, vaccination na, tusok man na? Kita gani mahadlok, how much more ang bata?” said the mayor.

CHD head, Doctor Jeffrey Ibones, said the vaccination for the younger minors are good to go on Wednesday at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) and Ayala Center Cebu.

Ibones said that nurses and doctors have helped prepare the sites since the sites will have fun elements in it. Rama had wanted mascots and cartoon characters around the site to entice the children.

“Ang atong target sa 5 to 11 years old, sa opening nato mga 200 to 250 sa Abellana (CCSC), nya sa Ayala kay 100 lang tingale. Atong registrants niabot nang 7,394,” said chief doctor.

CHD reminds parents to bring a birth certificate or identification card (ID) of the child. The parent must also bring their own identification.

A guardian accompanying a child must have authorization from the parents. However, it is encouraged that at least one parent be present in order to provide better health information about the child.

Ibones also urged parents to bring food for their children since kids may get hungry or get bored while waiting in line.
