The Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 will strictly implement the “No registration, No Run” policy on Oct. 15, which means violators will have to pay a fine of P5,000 every time they are flagged down.
LTO regional director Arnel Tancinco told reporters that they are following a timeframe in distributing the new plate numbers for vehicles acquired starting February this year.
“There is no official directive yet but we have been instructed by the central office to distribute it before October 16. By that time, they will be flagging down vehicles without plates,”said Tancinco.
The directive is expected to be issued next week and each offense made will have a penalty of P5,000.
He added he will deploy 150 personnel to monitor that these new plates are on the streets.
LTO-7 enforcers have already been flagging down vehicles without plate numbers, but violators are not yet made to pay the P5,000 penalty.
“We are urging everybody without plate numbers to coordinate with their dealers or visit our office so we can help them get their new plate numbers,” said Tancinco.
In Region 7, there are about 14,983 plate number for motor vehicles and 26,000 plate numbers for motorcycles for distribution.
But around 80 percent of these are yet to be distributed to owners due to some issues with the car dealers.
For owners of old motor vehicles, the distribution of the new plate numbers will start in January next year during the renewal of registration.
The new plate number costs P450 for motor vehicles and P120 for motorcycles.
¨The new plate focuses on visibility and simplicity,¨ said Tancinco.
The letters are in black font with white background and the region the vehicle belongs is indicated at the lower part of the plate.
Tancinco also said the bolt cannot be removed and it has a bar code which will be helpful in checking the details of the motor vehicle.
A sticker will also be pasted on the windshield of the vehicle that will match the plate number.
