World habitat day: Simultaneous builds across PH on Oct. 11

The Habitat for Humanity joins the United Nations and other organizations around the world in raising awareness and consciousness on the importance of building decent homes, by educating and mobilizing individuals and communities to take action in the current global housing crisis by observing the World Habitat Day.

In line with the observance, the Habitat for Humanity Philippines will hold activities today in Quezon City. Participants will be given a chance to help in the construction work for Habitat home partners and participating in the medical mission and sports clinic for the children.

The Habitat for Humanity Philippines will also organize 20 simultaneous builds on Oct. 11 in Metro Manila, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Zamboanga, Mindoro, Bohol, Cebu and Leyte.

The World Habitat Day, which is celebrated every first Monday of October, aims to make a call for new and innovative programs, policies and systems that would make the world a decent place to live for people from all walks of life – regardless of race or religion.

Through this series of events, the Habitat for Humanity Philippines hopes to raise awareness that more than four million Filipino families still live in substandard housing, and that this figure does not include the millions recently displaced by the Zamboanga conflict, the Bohol earthquake, and supertyphoon Yolanda.
