Tents for Bogo City students after fire

Classes for 415 grade school students in Bogo Central School I will be held in tents and special rooms after nine classrooms were destroyed by fire at 5 p.m. last Sunday.

“Classes will still continue and we will make sure that after two weeks, makeshift classrooms will be constructed,” said Dr. Nimfa Bongo, Bogo City schools division superintendent.

She said the social hall, Girl Scout office and industrial arts room will be temporarily used as classrooms.

The Bogo City Fire Department pegged the damage at P2.5 million.

Bogo City Fire Marshal Insp. Matt Riel Pono said the fire destroyed four Grade One classrooms, four Grade Two classrooms and one Grade Three classrooms and assorted school furniture.

FO3 Teodoro del Carmen, chief investigator of the Bogo City Fire Department, said they called for help from the fire stations of neighboring towns Tabuelan, San Remigio and Medellin but the fire burned most of the building.

Overheated

“When we arrived, the fire was already big. The origin of the fire is still under investigation as based on our interviews, no one was around or inside the school when the fire started),” del Carmen said.

The Department of Education (DepEd) officials in Bogo City also said they have no idea what caused the fire which started at the center building of Bogo Central School I.

Pono said they are verifying reports that faulty wiring or an overheated fan may have caused the fire.

Dr. Bongo said the budget for the repair of other classrooms that were damaged by Yolanda have yet to be released. /With Correspondents Apple Mae Ta-as and Rene F. Alima
