Two people were killed while two others were injured in three separate vehicular accidents in the cities of Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and Carcar on Friday and Saturday.
The first accident involved a collision between an ambulance and a motorcycle at past 1 a.m. in barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City.
The motorcycle driver, Alain Rosil Catorse, 38 of barangay Cansaga in Consolacion town sustained severe injuries in the body and head and was declared dead at the Mandaue City Hospital.
PO1 Eduardo Martinez, accident investigator of the Mandaue City Police Traffic Division, said Catorse was cruising along M.C. Briones Highway heading to Consolacion from Mandaue City when an ambulance, a Suzuki Multicab, slammed into his motorcycle.
Martinez said the ambulance was rushing a patient to the Eversley Childs Sanitarium.
However, he said the ambulance driver, Charlie Pepito, 52, was at fault as he made a turn without making sure if the road was clear.
The patient in the ambulance was not hurt.
Pepito, who is from Tayud, Consolacion town, was detained at the Mandaue Police Station in Basak.
Later that night, a man died in the hospital after he was run over by a Multicab pick-up as he was crossing the Maximo Patalinghug Ave. in barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City.
Edwin Soreno of Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, was declared dead at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. He succumbed to severe injuries in the head and body.
PO2 Romelo Adolfo, accident investigator at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Traffic Division, said the victim was crossing the avenue when the Multicab driven by Warlito Luad of barangay Basak hit the victim.
Adolfo said Luad was also injured after he lost control of the Multicab, which crashed into the center island and overturned on the road.
Both Luad and Soreno were taken to the VSMMC.
In Carcar City, a passenger bus rammed a concrete fence at sitio Gay-makers in barangay Perrelos at 3 a.m. yesterday.
The Sunrays Bus driven by Ritchel Apondar, 40, rammed into the iron fence owned by Mary Ann Arnaiz.
Police said the bus had an engine trouble and was taken to Cebu City for repairs.
But when Apondar, who was accompanied by a mechanic, Cirilo Villamor, reached sitio Gaymakers, the driver lost control of the bus, which swerved to the other lane before crashing into Arnaiz’s fence.
Apondar and Villamor were slightly injured in the accident.
Apondar was detained by police but was released later after Arnaiz told police she would no longer press charges since a Sunrays representative promised to pay for the destroyed fence.
