Close to a thousand runners joined the 8th Pink Run of the Philippine Society of General Surgeons (PSGS) Cebu Chapter and the Philippine College of Surgeons at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.
Race director Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE) cannot ascertain the total number of entries since registration was still ongoing as of this writing.
The run is one of the activities conducted by the PSGS and PCS in line with their advocacy on breast cancer awareness.
The race hopes to raise funds to establish a breast cancer clinic in the soon to be constructed Cebu City Medical Center (CCSC). It is part of the month long breast cancer awareness celebration of Pink October organized by running patron Dr. Peter Mancao, Dr. Axel Elises, the president of the PCS Cebu Chapter, PSGS president Dr. Jose Tan and Zander Ugalino, the chairman of PSGS’ sports programs.
Baring said that most of the runners enlisted in the 6k and 3k distances while the rest are in the 12k. Medals will go to the top five finishers in each category.
Racers are also advised to bring their own hydration bottles since organizers won’t use plastic cups to prevent unnecessary clutter during the race which will kick off at 5 a.m.
