An off-duty policeman was shot dead yesterday by three unidentified gunmen at Lower Lipata, barangay Linao, Minglanilla, Cebu.
P02 Omar Parages was walking along a road with his five-year-old son when the gunmen shot him in the face, and chest.
Senior Insp. Richard Gadingan, chief of police of Minglanilla, said the child was not hurt, but was left traumatized.
Witnesses told Gadingan that the gunmen did not conceal their faces and casually walked away after the attack.
Gadingan said they could not determine the type of guns used in the attack as investigators could not find spent shells in the crime scene.
“Wala nami nakakuha og empty shells kay usa pod sa atong gitan-aw mao nga naay storya-storya diri nga duna kunoy mamunitay og plastic, lata, ug puthaw nga niadto paghuwan sa hitabo unya basin og napunitan niya ang empty shells mao nang wala tay na-recover (We did not recover any empty shells from the crime scene. We are also checking reports that a scavenger picked up the empty shells after the attack),” said Gadingan.
Parages, who lives in Minglanilla, was assigned in the Minglanilla Police Station a couple o
f months ago. He was detailed at the Police Community Relations of Minglanilla Municipal Police Office.
Parages was previously assigned at the Operations Division of the Dumanjug Municipal Police Office.
Gadingan said that Parages transferred to Minglanilla after he agreed to swap places with PO1 Rodel Monteza, who wanted to be transferred to Dumanjug.
Parages’ body was brought to the Telly’s Funeral Parlor in Minglanilla.
