As the fishermen in northern Cebu try to get their livelihood back after typhoon Yolanda hit the area, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Visayas (BFAR)-7 launched the “Ahon” (Rise) project to build 2,000 boats and provide fishing gears for fishermen whose boats were destroyed.
The BFAR-7 will shoulder the P6,440,000 project cost, while the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas will provide a counterpart fund of P3,220,000 for the labor.
The boats will be built by the beneficiaries themselves who will be paid by the DSWD through its Cash for Building Livelihood Assets (CBLA), at P322 per day for five days.
“Most of the affected families are into fishing and we need to help them rebuild their livelihood through out Sustainable Livelihood Program, in partnership with BFAR,” DSWD Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat said.
