Gear and Glam 2014: I Spy

Gear and GlamOld Hollywood glamour… with a touch of danger.

This year’s “Gear and Glam” presented Fashion Council of Cebu (FCC) creations inspired by different James Bond films.

Albert Arriba’s sweet blush confections kick-started the show, and the key thought to his collection was his subtle way of toning down sequin shimmer by overlaying chiffon. Details that one can appreciate without it being too in your face.

Jun Escario has an innate ability of making clothes look modern through interesting cuts, but his use of monotone color palettes gives the clothes classic appeal.

Sleek and minimal, always chic. Oj Hofer’s stylish taupe armor— snail suits—proves that less is always more, and his precision with cuts is spot on. He wants his clothes to be wearable pieces of art.

A new addition to the group, Mia Arcenas shows that she’s no rookie, her contemporary approach to evening dressing feels effortlessly youthful and relaxed.

Cary Santiago’s creations never fail to astound the crowd. The details are slowly revealed as the gown comes into view. He takes draping and embellishment to a whole new level.

Yvonne Quisumbing’s penchant for deconstruction has been her signature style. Her pieces are versatile and easy to incorporate in one’s closet.

The first lady of style, Arcy Gayatin makes it clear that she can pretty much do any style, from romantic to edgy. Her slinky gowns in gunmetal are both sexy and chic.

When it comes to ingenuity, there is no shortage from designer Edwin Ao. His clever mix of textile and placement of details are so well calculated that there’s nothing out of place.

From Philipp Tampus, what looked like a coat and mini dress combo transformed dramatically into a gown by the simple unzipping of the sleeves.

Ditas Rodriguez chanelled old world charm in classic mermaid cuts. The renaissance of old Hollywood glamour is how I describe the collection.

To cap the show, FCC President Philip Rodriguez paraded impeccably tailored garments. The tangerine geometrically detailed  serpentina gown was incredibly stunning, sans the embellishment and sparkle this dress was everything classy all wrapped up in one. Of course, what would a Philip Rodriguez collection be without his suits? Definitely, James Bond would look oh so dapper in any one of them.
