Cebu City’s senior citizens will receive another P2,000 cash assistance to be distributed in barangay gyms starting at 8 a.m. today.
Acting Cebu City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas said this brings to P7,000 the total amount of cash assistance given by the Cebu City government to the city’s elders since February this year.
Cuevas said P113 million will be allocated for today’s distribution of cash aid to 60,000 registered seniors.
City Hall is only left with an unreleased balance of P5,000 of the P12, 000 allocation set aside for the elders this year.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said he will have to consult with former city councilor Jose Daluz III, City Administrator Lucelle Mercado and Office of the Senior Citizens Affair (OSCA) head Rolando Llaguno on whether or not the city should release the P5,000 balance in cash or as non-cash incentives.
But he admitted there is little chance the city can release the P5,000 balance in cash.
Cuevas said seniors who are unable to claim their cash aid today will have to get the money at the City Treasurer’s Office next week.
