Talisay City cops hit for letting suspect in road mishap escape

Three traffic police officers of Talisay City may face charges after a suspect in a road accident escaped from a hospital last Oct. 18.

A seven-month-old pregnant woman identified as Maricor Mabella and her mother went to the Provincial Intelligence and Detection Management Branch (PIDMB) to follow up on her complaint against SPO1 Edgar Causon, SPO1 Isias Cabuenas and SPO1 Cecilio Miñoza.

The three police officers supposedly allowed 28-year-old driver Reygan Pintuan to leave the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) hours after he collided with a motorcycle Mabella rode on and driven by her father Richard Mabella Jr.

Mabella said Pintuan tried to avoid a pothole and hit them head on. The collision threw Mabella to the other lane.

“My baby is fine based on the ultrasound test but I had cuts on my face),” Mabella said. Her father Richard is recovering from his wounds, she said. It was learned that Pintuan had no driver’s license and his motorcycle wasn’t registered.

He had two passengers named Chona Caballero, 32 and John Michael Lopez, 28 who also sustained injuries.

Supt. Reycel Dayon, Talisay City police chief, said Pintuan was brought to the VSMMC but the suspect was gone when police went there.

Pintuan’s wife left a phone number to the precinct but it belonged to a company where she worked.

Mabella said they still have P200,000 worth of unpaid medical bills.
