Fire hits Cebu Doctors Hospital; Patients evacuated

Fire broke out at the Cebu Doctors Hospital earlier tonight.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Cebu City said the first fire alarm was received at 8:11 p.m.

It reportedly started in the hospital’s linen department located in the basement of the five-storey hospital complex.

Patients, including those in the operating and labor rooms were evacuated from the hospital.

They were wheeled in the J. Avila Street of the hospital where ambulances were seen waiting and transported to other hospitals like Chong Hua Hospital nearby.

Fire trucks occupied the Gov. Roa Street side of the hospital where the entrance to the basement is located.

The 300-bed hospital is one the leading tertiary hospitals in Central Visayas.

According to its website, the hospital has state of the art facilities and ultra modern hospital complex rises on a 5,166 square meters ground that accommodate the main hospital and medical clinic buildings.

A fire also broke in the hospital during the 7.2 magnitude earthquake, resulting in the evacuation of patients on Oct. 15, 2013.

The BFP declared the fire under control at 9:20 p.m.
