The Mandaue City government will clear all the tents that displaced settlers of the Mahiga Creek put up in the site.
Albert Lapesique, head of the demolition team, said they were ordered to clear the area today.
Last Monday, 34 household owners and members of the Sitio Mahayag Socialized Housing Inc.
(SMASHI), showed their protest of the recent demolition by putting up an on-site relocation which they call “Tent City.”
They wish to spend Christmas and New Year in the “Tent City” which they insisted does not encroach on the creek’s three-meter easement zone.
At 1 p.m. yesterday, members of the demolition team escorted by policemen from Subangdaku Police Station informed the settlers that the area will be cleared today.
It will be inspected by the City Engineering Office before they will fence the side of M. Logarta St. and Ouano Ave.
Lapesique also revealed that equipment to be used for the dredging like bulldozer and backhoe will be placed in the area.
Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes decided to demolish structured along the Mahiga Creek so that dredging can be done to avoid overflowing of the river and flooding.
Some settlers voluntarily dismantled their shanties. Lapesique said they are giving the others to voluntarily tear down their structures until Monday next week.
Yesterday, around 20 owners dismantled their houses and transferred to the relocation site in Barangay Paknaan.
