CEBU Gov. Hilario Davide III said the Cebu provincial government intends to re-assume the lot occupied by the Palace of Justice building once it is vacated by the judges and court employees.
Davide said he signified his intention during a meeting with Supreme Court Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco last Friday.
“We need more spaces for Capitol offices so if the Palace of Justice will be abandoned by the judiciary, we can take over and make use of the building,” said Davide in a press conference this morning.
Davide said the lot where the Palace of Justice presently stands is owned by the Cebu provincial government. “There’s actually no Deed of Donation between the province and the judiciary for the use of our lot for the Palace of Justice,” he said.
But Davide said the province is willing to provide a space for another Palace of Justice building at the Department of Agriculture lot in barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.
