A teenager previously jailed for illegal possession of firearms was killed after he allegedly tried to engage the police in a shootout in barangay Mabolo, Cebu City past midnight yesterday.
Reymark Ybañez, 19, suffered gunshot wounds in the chest, head and arm.
Supt. Romeo Santander, chief of the City Intelligence Branch, said they were conducting patrol when a resident sought their help due to the presence of an armed man in the area.
Santander said they introduced themselves as policemen when they spotted Ybañez at the Ayala Access Road.
Santander said police were forced to fire shots when the man drew a gun and pulled the trigger but the gun malfunctioned.
The man was already dead when paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation arrived.
