UP scouts for new coach

The long-suffering University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons is hoping that a fresh voice will turn their fortunes around as the school’s College of Human Kinetics Dean, Ronnie Dizer announced yesterday the basketball program’s search for a new coach.

Dizer announced that current head coach Rey Madrid will be stepping down  at the end of the year, thus paving the way for a “full-time” coach.

A search committee has been created, which is composed of team manager Dan Palami, the man credited for turning the fortunes of the country’s football program around; school athletic director Ariel juliano, former CHK dean Artemio Isidro, College of Engineering Dean Aurora Matias and, surprisingly, former University of Santo Tomas head coach Pido Jarencio.

The Maroons last won the basketball title in 1986 but has since fallen on tough times, which has included several winless seasons.
