Top notch boxing trainer Edito Villamor revealed that he is hugely impressed by the work done by American strength and conditioning trainer Nick Curson on ALA Boxing Gym boxers who will see action in the Pinoy Pride 28: History in the Making card on No. 15 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
“So far so good. He introduced different training methods to the boxers that really helped boost their stamina and power. I think all of them can go beyond 12 rounds,” Villamor told CDN.
Curson is ALA Boxing Gym’s current strength and conditioning coach. Last May, he worked on two-division world champion and reigning WBO Light Flyweight king Donnie “Ahas” Nietes (33-1-4,19KOs) in the latter’s successful demolition of arch rival Moises Fuentes of Mexico in Manila where the Ilongo champ scored a ninth round TKO victory against Fuentes in their rematch. Their first encounter ended in a draw here in Cebu last year.
Curson also trained four-division world champion Nonito Donaire in the latter’s successful WBA world featherweight title bid against former champion, Simpiwe Vetyeka last summer.
Curson owns a training facility in Redondo Beach, California and uses a variety of training methods to help athletes improve not just their performance but also their physique, power, speed and strength.
“He’s a big help to the team. With regards to Donnie’s preparations we are very ready. We only made little adjustments to Donnie’s training so that he can adapt to his opponent’s style,” said Villamor.
Villamor, his brother Edmund Villamor and Curson also train PP28 fighters Milan “El Metodico” Melindo (31-1,12KOs) who has an IBF light flyweight mandatory title eliminator against Saul Juarez (20-3, 11KOs) of Mexico in the co-main event, “Prince” Albert Pagara (21-0,15KOs) who will defend his IBF Intercontinental bantamweight belt against Raul Hirales (22-3-1, 11KOs) of Mexico, former WBO minimumweight king Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo (23-1-1, 12KOs) who will face Indonesian Faris Nenggo (8-6-3, 2KOs) and former world title challenger AJ “Bazooka” Banal (31-2-1, 22KOs) who will battle Thai Maxsaisai Sithsaithong (15-5, 4KOs).
