BPO booters make up majority of roster for Kick for Life
The official rosters of the two teams that are eyeing to make history in the Kick For Life 101 Football Marathon was bared yesterday.
While many would think the players in these teams are professionals, they are actually just mostly employees from different business process outsourcing (BPO) companies in Cebu.
The 34 players are Accenture’s Glaiza Gabor, Hannah Garce Medalle, Maria Jessa Sepe and Sheila Lyn Ortiz along; Care Sharing’s Oodina Abellana and Stacey Kay Cardoso; Convergys’ Jay Avila and Maria Claire Borlas and Feel Deep Scuba Diving’s Ana Clarisa Acuña. Joining them are IBM’s John Raul Albura and Kayle Kristoffer Millan; Lexmark Cebu’s Jeferson Nanao, Allan Fuentes, Eduard Retardo Jr., Mason Misa, Julie Espinosa, Julie Jhoy Sanchez, Napa Siriganjanapong, Peri Pediva, Ron Manual de Ocampo, Nakul Siriganjanapong, Darleen Corpin and Reil Gabunada; NCR’s Algen Madelo, Elijah Arias, John Irizari, Kathleen Kyrztin Toylo, Michael Pacaña, Ramonita Sumampong, Brian Lou Guillen and SSI’s Hans Wilhelm Schaulch. Completing the list are Teradyne’s Garbo Alter, Hussein James Roda and Novem Español.
They will be divided into two teams and are expected to play for 101 hours of non-stop football at the San Roque football field on Dec. 2-6.
Organizers of this unique event are aiming to break United Kingdom’s 72-hour Guinness World Record for the longest football game.
The main motivation of these players is to raise funds for children with Congenital Heart Defect (CHD). All the proceeds, donations and pledges will go to Let It Echo, a non-governmental organization helping children with CHD.
A press conference was held yesterday at the Mandaue City Hall’s Social Hall. The press conference was headed by Lexmark Cebu President and CEO RL Bandy, event organizer Jaq Siwala, Event Initiator Alex Escala and Cebu Football Association’s Atty. Julius Ceasar Entise.
Pre and post-game pledges are two ways to support the event.
The historic match follows regular FIFA rules and is sanctioned by the Cebu Football Association.
