Senior Insp. Gerald Suquib, Mambaling precinct chief, said he respects Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama’s one strike policy and will accept being relieved of his post if another robbery occurs within his area.
“I’ll respect the mayor’s decision. I’ll just exert more effort to keep my area safe,” he said.
Last week, a convenience store was robbed by motorcycle riders in barangay Mambaling.
Suquib identified one of the robbers as a former policeman named Eugene Salingay.
It was later discovered that Salingay is still detained at the Misamis Occidental Provincial Reformatory Jail (MOPRJ) since September 2.
Some police precinct chiefs said Rama’s one strike policy is a challenge to them to perform their jobs better.
Sleeping on the job
The one strike policy involves the sacking of a police precinct chief if a commercial establishment is robbed within their jurisdiction.
Senior Supt. Noli Romana, Cebu City police chief, said he would resign if one of the police precinct chief is relieved.
Senior Insp. Chuck Barandog, Sawang Calero police precinct chief, said he had been sleeping less in the past two weeks inspecting all commercial 24/7 establishments and saw some security guards sleeping on their jobs.
“Naa koy nasakpan nga natug sa ilang pwesto (I caught them sleeping on the job),” Barandog said.
He said he invited the guards to his office and reprimanded them, then reported the incident to the Firearms, Explosives, Security Agencies and Guards Supervisory Section (FESAGSS) for administrative action.
