Former provincial government security consultant Loy Madrigal would rather face charges in court than enter into a settlement for a crime he claims he did not commit.
“If she will sue, then we’ll see each other in court,” Madrigal told Cebu Daily News, referring to Marites Mirambel who threatened to press charges against him if he doesn’t agree to provide financial assistance to her family.
Mirambel survived a collision with a government-owned truck that Madrigal rode in last September in Bogo City. Marites’ husband Felix, who drove the motorcycle that time, died after the accident.
Last Friday, Mirambel claimed that Madrigal drove the truck saying she could not be mistaken. Madrigal said that Mirambel was only making things up.
Since the area was dark at the time, Madrigal said Mirambel could not have possibly seen him come out of the driver’s side of the truck.
He said the impact of the collision threw the couple 15 meters away.

“She couldn’t have seen anything from that distance,” he said.
Madrigal remained adamant that he was innocent and that his driver, 45-year old Alberto Naraja, was really at fault.
He said he refuses to settle, especially since all the family’s immediate needs were already paid for. Madrigal called Mirambel a “big liar.” “I’m sure she was paid to say those things,” he said.
Asked who would have paid Mirambel to bash him, he bluntly accused Medellin Mayor Ricardo Ramirez. Sought for comment, the mayor said he did not have anything to do with Mirambel’s accusation.
