Several main streets in Cebu City will be closed on Sunday from 10 a.m. till evening for a religious procession for the Feast of Christ the King.
A 4 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at the Provincial Capitol grounds with Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma.
A solemn procession will follow from Capitol to the downtown area, Colon Street, D. Jakosalem Street, MC Briones Street, MJ Cuenco Avenue until Plaza Independencia where a Eucharistic blessing will be held.
Streets in the Capitol area will be closed starting 10 a.m.
At least 50,000 people are expected to attend the activity from all parishes in the province, according to the Archdiocese of Cebu.
The procession and road closures are a dry run for a similar activity for the 2016 International Eucharistic Congress, where over 10,000 delegates are expected.
Citom operations chief Joy Tumulak advised motorists and passengers to plan their trips ahead and be patient on Sunday.
“Let’s think of this like a celebration of Sinulog and think of it as our form of sacrifice,” Tumulak said during yesterday’s 888 News Forum at the Marco Polo Plaza.
At least 100 buses are expected during the event apart from the usual motor vehicle traffic. Tumulak said the road closures may last until 10 p.m. but streets will be opened as soon as the procession passes by.
