The Department of Education (DepEd) 7 has cleared the school administration of Kawit Elementary School of any liability for allowing the use of a classroom in Kawit, Medellin, which is yet to be formally turned over.
Dr. Arden Monisit, DepEd provincial schools division superintendent, said Kawit Elementary School Principal Evelyn Pantaleon explained that even without a formal turnover, the classroom was already issued a certificate of acceptance from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Monisit earlier said that the teachers and principal who allowed the use of an “unfinished” classroom could be held liable for any damage on the building or if anything untoward will happen to the students.
Monisit and Pantaleon met Tuesday afternoon to discuss and clarify the matter.
A team of DepEd engineers, headed by Engr. Kevin Bolok, were sent to inspect the structure Friday last week and Tuesday this week.
Monisit said that the team saw hairline cracks along the walls but the contractor rectified the defect immediately.
The said classroom project is a post-Yolanda project undertaken by the DPWH and was contracted to Rovilla Construction.
