Two new school buildings with 12 classrooms were turned over by SM Foundation and Deutsche Bank to Polambato Elementary School in barangay Polambato, Bogo City recently.
The new buildings sit on a one-hectare lot donated by the heirs of Wenceslao and Margarita Fernan. The site is also near the SM Cares Village which was inaugurated a few days ago.
Each classroom is equipped with student desks, blackboards, teacher’s tables and chairs, electric fans and a toilet.
Aside from the school building donation, the employees of Deutsche Bank led by chief operating officer Rhoneil Fajardo and corporate social responsibility head in Asia Annie Yeo distributed health kits to the school pupils.
They also painted murals in each classroom depicting the theme, “Resilience.”
During typhoon Yolanda in November last year, roofs were blown away with three classrooms totally damaged.
The school had to repair damaged classrooms and build makeshift classrooms to accommodate the school pupils.
The turnover and blessing of the school buildings was graced by local city officials led by Mayor Celestino Martinez Jr., heirs of Wenceslao and Margarita Fernan represented by Michael Fernan and Dr. Emiliana Borromeo, Dr. Nimfa Bongco of the Department of Education, Deutsche Bank’s COO Rhoneil Fajardo, VP for Finance-Legal Control Edgar Jose Ampil, Director and Head CSR Asia Anie Yeo, and SM Foundation’s Debbie Sy and Carmen Linda Atayde.
