A former security guard was shot to death in front of his son for still undetermined reasons in sitio Manay-as, barangay Lambug, Badian town, southwest Cebu Tuesday afternoon.
Romeo Auban Terante, 50, was walking with his 10-year-old son when two men on a motorcycle intercepted them.
PO2 Randy Balansag of Badian Police said the pillion rider shot Terante but missed. He fired a second time and hit Terante in the left arm.
Terante ran with his son, but the gunman chased them.
The gunman later caught up with Terante and shot him in the left side of the head. The gunman and his companion immediately fled.
His son, a Grade 4 pupil of Lambug Elementary School, who witnessed the whole incident is now in the custody of other family members.
Police said the boy’s mother killed herself about a month ago.
The child told the police that his father was ordered to kneel by the gunman.
He pleaded with the gunman not to kill him, but he was shot in the face.
Police said that both the driver of the motorcycle and the pillion rider were wearing ski masks. They were both medium built and dark skinned.
Terante was brought to Badian District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Two empty shells and two rounds of ammunition were recovered from the area.
Police are still investigating.
