Triathlon organizers were asked to help the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) grassroots development program on triathlon.

Edward Hayco, chairman of CCSC, made a call following the launching of the first-ever Cebu City Triathlon yesterday.

Cornerstone Group founder Steve Maniquis, the organizer of the upcoming race slated Jan. 25 next year, expressed willingness to help train aspiring Cebuano triathletes.

Maniquis said they are planning to give two slots for barangay-based grassroots for the upcoming triathlon.

“When we met with chairman Hayco for the first time, his first question was will there be a grassroots program for this sports here in Cebu City? We answered him yes, we are already planning to develop young athletes by holding a seminar on triathlon. We are also planning to tap ITU coaches in Manila to help us teach P.E coaches here in Cebu City on the basics and fundamentals about triathlon and we are looking forward to make that happen,” said Maniquis.

Maniquis said if the first Cebu City Triathlon will be successful, they will also be organizing a triathlon race for kids.

“It’s a great chance for barangay-based grassroots program beneficiaries to experience the sport. We will never know we might discover a talent,” added Maniquis.
