Mwiti, Sanchez top lapu marathon

Douglas Mwiti of Kenya and ultra marathoner Preciosa Sanchez were the winners in the 1st Historic City Marathon-Lapu Lapu City, which started late Saturday and ended early yesterday at the Lapu-lapu City Hall grounds.

Mwiti finished the midnight 42-kilometer marathon with a time of two hours, 47 minutes and 43 seconds to rule the men’s race while Sanchez finished in 3:58.21 to bag the women’s crown.

Ruffa Sorongan was the fastest in the women’s 21k race, clocking  1:38.41, while Rey Entera Velarde topped the men’s  division with a time of 1:17.30.

Sorongan recently ruled two running events in a single weekend. She won the 10k race in Run For Juan last Nov. 22 and a day after that, she dominated the 21k race in the 3rd Royal Run of Hotel Elizabeth.

Other winners were Robert Daang and Sarah Lee Cuizon (10k), Riez Enriquez and Riza Bauson (5k) an Roland Batiancila and Rosemarie Tumamak (3k).
