IT’S going to be a busy weekend for car enthusiasts as the three-day 1st Tour De Cebu: 1,000-kilometer Historic Rally Across the Visayas fires off this Friday, Dec. 5, at the I.T. Park in barangay Apas, Cebu City.
The first-ever touristic rally of its kind in the country will have members of the Performance and Classics Enthusiasts (Pace) and the Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC) showcasing their slick vintage cars.
Patterned after Mille Miglia in Italy, a race covering 1,000 miles from Brescia to Rome and back, the event will feature historic and post-historic sports cars made not later than Dec. 31, 1979.
Participants will have to complete each stage in a pre-determined time with the car having the lowest penalty score winning the race.
MEANING OF VINTAGE
As a prelude to the event, PACE, in cooperation with the MSCC, will be holding a discussion on the wonders of owning, collecting, restoring, and racing vintage cars titled, “What is The Meaning of Vintage?” on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 3:45 p.m. at The Henry Hotel in Maria Luisa Road, Banilad.
Leading the discussion will be two of the country’s foremost and respected automobile enthusiasts, Andy Sta. Maria and Gonzalo “Nene” Syquia, both founding members of the MSCC.
The talk will also include a briefing of the Tour de Cebu race.
The event is free but limited slots are available. Interested participants can contact Sophie at 0917-813-2694. /with PR
