192 Badian studes to share  classroom

STUDENTS from Grade 1 to 4 at the Basangpangpang Elementary School in Badian town, southern Cebu will have to share one classroom after their school building was heavily damaged during the onslaught of tropical depression Queenie last week.

Gerry Mantos, physical plant coordinator of the provincial office of the Department of Education (Deped), said Basangpangpang Elementary School is the most damaged school in Southern Cebu.

Broklita Rodriguez, the school’s principal, said they will be conducting classes in shifts. A total of 192 students were affected by the situation, she said.

The three classroom building lost its roof during the storm.

“We can’t conduct classes without roofs because of the changing weather,” Rodriguez told Cebu Daily News. “We were able to save the chairs and tables while books that got soaked in rainwater were laid out to dry.”

Power has yet to be restored in the school which is located in the upland barangay of Candiis. The school, which is about 30 minutes away from the national highway, can only be reached by “habal habal” or motorcycle taxis.
