As typhoon “Ruby” landfalls in Masbate island around 10 a.m. Northern Cebu experience violent winds.
Cebu Daily News reporter Peter Romanillos who is now in Daanbatayan town tweeted around 11 a.m. that they are experiencing “strongest winds” so far.
Earlier, Pagasa – Visayas chief Oscar Tabada warned that Cebu may experience the worse of “Ruby” mid-morning to noon of today, as the storm’s eye is closest to northern Cebu as it makes its way in Masbate for its second landfall. This is associated with violent winds and heavy rains.
As of 8 a.m. Pagasa issued an orange flood warning in Northern Cebu, Bantayan and Camotes islands. Orange warning means “flood is threatening” because of heavy to intense rainfall (15-30mm/hour).
At the Cebu Capitol, Gov. Hilario Davide III has declared no classes on Monday. Lapu-Lapu Mayor Paz Radaza also declared no classes in the Mactan Island city.
Public storm signal warning no. 2 remains hoisted in northern Cebu, Bantayan and Camotes islands and
Cebu City. The rest of Cebu is under signal no. 1.
“Ruby” is expected to make its 3rd landfall in Sibuyan Island between 8 – 10 p.m. Today.
Pagasa said that “Ruby” further lost wind speed from 175 kph maximum sustained wind to 140 kph and gustiness of up to 170 kph as of 11 a.m. and moving west northwest at 15 kph.
Rainfall however, is still cause of worry as “Ruby” may dump 15 to more than 30 mm/hour (heavy to torrential) within its 500 kilometer diameter.
