CEBU CITY, Philippines—A total of 252 personnel from 10 public markets in Cebu City were subjected to a surprise drug test on Tuesday morning, December 13, 2022.
Wynne Cenas, Cebu City Market Administrator, said these personnel were invited for a general assembly at the interim building of Carbon Public Market before the surprise drug test was conducted.
“Ato ni silang gipatawag for a general assembly unya ato sad gi-update sa mga Christmas nga mga kalambuan. Ato g’yod ning gi make sure nga ang usa ka public servant dapat wala g’yod ta anang bisyoha,” he said.
Cenas noted that this endeavor is not new as even before he assumed office, there were already random drug tests done yearly.
“So far, naay usahay magduda ta, naa g’yod siguroy pipila pero karon makita jud siguro nato. Aron mawagtang na ang mga pagduda, aron ma confirm kung tigamitan o dili, mas maayo nga i drug test,” he said.
“Mas maayo sad kay para at least, makahatag ta og intervention. Dili man sad ingon pasagdan nato sila kung naa sila dihang dapita. Ang ato nga ato silang mahatagan og nindot nga intervention,” he added.
Cenas told CDN Digital that those who will be found positive for illegal drug use will have the option to avail of the program of the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP).
He said they expect to get the results of the surprise drug test within a week.
