The young woman whom some Netizens have tagged the ‘most beautiful shoplifter in Cebu’ ran into trouble yesterday in Asturias town, midwest Cebu for failing to pay her bill after staying three days in a resort.
J was brought to the police station past 11 a.m. by the barangay captain and a tanod after the owner of Cabo Resort complained about the non-paying guest who checked in alone on Monday and occupied a P2,000-a-day family room.
J, a tall mestiza in shorts and a tank top, said she didn’t have enough cash and was waiting for her parents to bring her money for the resort.
Her real age has been a matter of speculation after she told the establishment she was over 20 then told police she was 16 years old.
Three months ago she was spotted on security cameras of a boutique in Parkmall in Mandaue City picking out P10,000 worth of clothes then walking out wearing some of them without paying.
The shoplifting episode went viral.
PO3 Dianne Molejon of the Asturias police, said one of the resort attendants asked J to settle her P15,000 bill last Wednesday but the guest wasn’t able to pay.
It was her third visit to the resort after checking in with a male companion before so the staff didn’t worry until they got wind of J’s previous cases, including her recent trip to a salon in Cebu City where she had P2,000 worth of nail and hair treatments then left without paying.
J, who said she’s from Sogod, Southern Leyte, has to stay overnight in the police Women and Children Protection Desk of Asturias before she is brought to the provinciaial social worker office for evaluation since the resort owner plans to file a complaint.
Interviewed by News5 reporter King Anthony Perez, the young woman lamented that after the widespread exposure on the Internet, establishments who find out who she is prejudge her.
Nails and Cocktails Salon owner Christy Sigvathesen filed an estafa complaint yesterday against the young woman. She said J had hair and nail treatments worth P2,000 in her shop then left on the pretext of going to the ATM to withdraw cash but never came back.
J told News 5 Cebu that she wasn’t able to pay the salon because an “emergency” suddenly came up. She didn’t elaborate.
Asked if she would face the complaints filed against her, she said, “Do I have a choice? I will wait for my parents.”
