Cebu’s 6th district Rep. Gabriel Luis “Luigi” Quisumbing is getting married next year to his high school “crush”.
The 35-year-old first-term congressman is tying the knot with businesswoman Maricar Hofileña on March 7, 2015.
Invitations have been sent out for the nuptials to be held at the National Shrine of St. Joseph in Mandaue City.
Hofileña, 35, hails from Silay City, Negros Occidental but is based in Manila. She is a close relative of Carmel Luzurriaga Durano, wife of Danao City Vice Mayor Ramon “Red” Durano VI.
The two first met as teenagers.
“I was 14 years old at that time and she was my first crush,” Quisumbing told reporters on Sunday.
They did not see each other for 20 years as Quisubming left for the United States to attend high school. They only met again in March this year at the wake of his grandmother in Manila. Hofileña attended the wake with Quisumbing’s cousin who is her bestfriend. They started dating and later decided to be life partners.
Quisumbing’s Facebook account carried posts in November hinting of wedding plans with photos of the couple together but he formally announced it in a media gathering over the weekend.
His principal wedding sponsors include Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, Consolacion Mayor Teresita “Nene” Alegado, Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy, Senate President Franklin Drilon, Budget Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad, House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., Sen. Grace Poe and Cabinet Secretary Rene Almendras.
PresidentAquino is also expected to attend as a special guest.
“We asked the president, but it’s his policy that he will not sponsor weddings as he is still a bachelor,” Quisumbing said.
