The new airport terminal operator, GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp., has started to upgrade features of the old terminal.
The domestic departure check-in area now has two ramps and two X-ray machines. A wall was torn down for more vertical space. A section occupied by shops was cleared out and the retailers relocated to another part of the terminal.
The new check-in area has more green, refreshing spots with plants set up in a mini garden with flowing water.
GMCAC chief executive advisor Andrew Acquaah Harrison said these changes meant giving up about P6 million in monthly revenues in favor of a more convenient access for travelers.
“We will be duplicating this in our international departure area as well,” Harrison said in a briefing.
Fixtures in the comfort rooms will be replaced in line with a new concept.
Focus group discussions with men, women and persons with disablities will be conducted “to define their individual needs for a washroom,” said Harrison.
In time for Sinulog in January, a “greeters” area will be ready in the domestic arrival area.
New recliner seats will be delivered for the VIP area in March next year along with more X-ray machines and a new IT system.
“Most of the changes within three years are soft adjustments. Once the new terminal is ready and operational, we will move operations there and do more hard renovations in the existing terminal,” said Harrison.
