At least 2,900 children from 49 of Cebu City’s urban barangays enjoyed a day of free food, gifts, fun and games during a Christmas party called the 7th Pasko sa Uptown 2014 yesterday in Camp Lapu-Lapu in barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

“The place is too big! We could really meet new friends here from other barangays,” said 12-year-old Shantyl Dacua, who is one of the 55 children from barangay Pasil who attended the party.

Children from each participating barangay had tents put up at the Central Command grounds where the Christmas party was held.

“I am thankful that we are able to attend this party because at least we can also experience an event like this. During Christmas Day, it’s only an ordinary day for our family,” Dacua said in Bisaya.

Dacua, who was with her 10-year-old sister at the party, said her father is a fisherman while her mother is a fish vendor.

“At least with this party, I meet new friends and play with them. Food and drinks are on the second priority,” another Pasil child, Michael Eugene Cellan, 11, said in Bisaya. Cellan’s parents passed away and he lives with his grandmother.

Cebu City Progressive Uptown Movement, a nongovernment organization, hosted yesterday’s party.
