TWO HUNDRED runners have already enlisted for the annual Sinulog Fun Run that will start and finish at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) on Tuesday.
Lyle Larida, a member of the technical group handling the running event, told Cebu Daily News that aside from the 200 individual runners, they are still expecting to draw more runners after different companies and running clubs in Cebu asked for registration forms.
The race features a five-kilometer race using the official route of the grand Sinulog Mardi Gras slated Jan. 15, 2015.
“We have 200 runners enlisted but there’s a lot of running clubs and companies who are very interested in joining the running event after they heard that there’s a special prize for the biggest delegation,” Larida said.
Larida said a running group from the White Gold Club has already enlisted but she does not have the total number of runners yet. That’s apart from the the vaunted tracksters of the University of San Carlos (USC), who have also signed up for the race.
Meanwhile, reigning National Milo Marathon queen Mary Joy Tabal will spearhead the list of the top contenders, according to Larida. Tabal will be joined by her partner and coach John Philip Dueñas.
Kenyan runners are also expected to join the upcoming running event as they vie for the big cash prizes at stake. The top male and female runners will bring home P10,000 while cash prizes will be given up to the 10th placers.
Registration is still going on until Sunday at the CCSC. The registration fee is pegged at P300. Finishers will receive a specially designed Sinulog Festival shirt.
