Pagasa sees wet New Year’s eve

EXPECT a rainy New Year’s Eve in Cebu especially after  a low pressure area  entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility yesterday morning.

Pagasa Mactan  forecast light rains in Cebu and  Central Visayas for the next five days.

“Evaporation happens during the afternoon. That is why  we experience rains from the afternoon until evening,” said  Enzo Puerto, weather specialist of Pagasa Mactan, which  recorded  20.6 millimeters of rain last December 25.

The LPA that entered the Philippines  was spotted  860 kilometers off the eastern portion of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. It is a   weak one and  there is a low chance of  it becoming a typhoon, said  Puerto, who added that “possible changes can happen.”

The northeast monsoon  contributes to the  cold winds blowing in the Philippines but this  has also lessened the occurence of thunderstorms,  said Puerto.
