Sinulog Fun Run moved to Jan. 4

Tropical storm Seniang not only cancelled dozens of flights and all sea travel in Cebu the past two days, it also forced organizers of the 2015 Sinulog Fun Run to move the event to another date.
The fun run, whose route is the same used by the Sinulog carousel, was supposed to be held early morning of Tuesday starting at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) but was moved to Jan. 4 because of the ugly weather Seniang brought to Cebu and the Visayas.
The weather turned better early Tuesday, but organizers decided to cancel the footrace because rains and strong winds still battered Cebu late Monday night. Because of that, Sinulog Foundation head Ricky Ballesteros decided at 1 a.m. of Tuesday, to postpone the event.
“To ensure safety of participants the fun run is postponed to Jan. 4, 2015 with the same gun start and venue,” Ballesteros said in a text message. “The postponement was due to the current bad weather condition brought by tropical depression Seniang. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
One of the noted participants, reigning National Milo Marathon queen Mary Joy Tabal of Cebu, agreed with the postponement because it was “for the safety of everybody.”
“That night pa lang (Monday) we were expecting na the race will be postponed due to the heavy rain and strong winds,” Tabal said. “It’s better (that it will be held) this Sunday so that many could still join and it would be more fun.”
The 25-year-old Tabal, who successfully defended her 42k title in the 38th National Milo Marathon Finals in Manila earlier this month, has won 19 titles this year, including one in Seoul, South Korea.
She was seeking her 20th win for the year but because of the postponement, she would instead be aiming for her first crown of 2015 when she competes in the Sinulog Fun Run this Sunday.
Interested runners can still register for the festive and wellness event that features a lone distance of five kilometers.
Registration resumed yesterday at the CCSC with a fee of P300. For further inquiries, interested parties may call the Sinulog Foundation Office at 253-3700.
